Brief Description:  The Department of Uro-Oncology at the National Institute of Cancer Research and Hospital (NICRH), Dhaka, provides comprehensive care for patients with urological cancers including those of the kidney, bladder, prostate, testis, penis and adrenal gland. The department focuses on accurate diagnosis, surgical management, and multidisciplinary treatment in collaboration with medical and radiation oncology, Gynae Oncology, Surgical Oncology. It also engages in academic training, clinical research, and awareness activities, aiming to deliver evidence-based, patient-centered cancer care and contribute to advancements in the field of uro-oncology in Bangladesh.
History & Establishment: The Department of Uro-Oncology at the National Institute of Cancer Research & Hospital (NICRH) was established in 2015 with the vision of providing specialized care for patients with genitourinary malignancies in Bangladesh. Since its inception, the department has evolved into a leading national referral center for the management of cancers of the kidney, bladder, prostate, testis, penis & adrenal gland.
Over the years, the department has achieved several key milestones, including the introduction of laparoscopic urological oncology surgeries, image-guided diagnostic procedures, and comprehensive multidisciplinary cancer care. It actively collaborates with other departments—such as Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, and Radiology—to ensure evidence-based, patient-centered treatment.
The Uro-Oncology Department also plays an important role in academic training and research, contributing regularly to national cancer data, postgraduate education, and awareness programs aimed at early detection and prevention of urological cancers.

    The Department of Uro-Oncology at NICRH is equipped with modern facilities for the diagnosis and management of urological cancers. State-of-the-art equipment and technologies include advanced endoscopic systems (TURP, TURBT, ureterorenoscopy), laparoscopic surgical setups, and high-precision imaging support for staging and planning. The department also offers minimally invasive procedures, neobladder reconstruction, and multidisciplinary tumor board-based treatment planning in collaboration with medical and radiation oncology, ensuring comprehensive and personalized cancer care.
