The Department of Transfusion Medicine plays a vital role in
health care for cancer patients by ensuring the safe and effective use of blood
and blood products. It provides specialized testing and clinical support for
patient blood management. The department is committed to maintaining the
highest standards in blood transfusion policy and quality assurance. All steps
of blood collection from donors, screening, grouping, compatibility testing,
component preparation, storage, and transportation are performed under strict
protocols. A dedicated day care transfusion service is also available for
outpatients.
The department was established in 2008 and began functioning in 2009 with
services such as blood grouping, screening, and cross-matching. The apheresis
machine became operational in August 2010, allowing the preparation and supply
of more than one thousand units of SDP per year. Shortly, a cell separator
machine will further improve efficiency, and a blood irradiator machine will be
introduced soon.
